Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia’s Vicarious Trauma - Managing the Inevitable Workshops are designed to assist frontline, supervisory and managerial staff to identify and respond effectively to vicarious trauma in the workplace.

  • Legalities and responsibilities of vicarious trauma management
  • Conceptualising wellness promotion within supervision
  • Informal monitoring of various trauma impacts in staff
  • Cases requiring special intervention
  • Early intervention strategies for the workplace
  • Reducing risk of vicarious traumatisation through handover
  • Managing challenging conversations around vicarious trauma
  • Maximising staff participation in vicarious trauma management


Learning Objectives

Completing the Supervising the Management of Vicarious Trauma Workshop will enable participants to: 

  • Understand legalities and responsibilities of vicarious trauma management
  • Assess vicarious trauma impacts in staff informally
  • Identify and refer cases requiring special intervention
  • Apply effective handover practices to reduce the risk of vicarious trauma
  • Develop effective strategies to increase staff participation in vicarious trauma management


Course Duration:  Full day (8 hours)

Prerequisite: Understanding & Responding to Vicarious Trauma
